Dr. Park
4. Dr. Chung Park, if Mrs. Jevitt is my “Violin Mom” then you are my “Violin Dad!” My orchestra conductor, my violin teacher, my mentor, and my friend. Thank you for seeing something in me to take the time to give me free violin lessons your first year at UCF. You came, you saw and you conquered! Another violist/violin-teacher-by proxy, you are an all around real-life string/musical Wizard who appeared at UCF as Director of Orchestras seemingly out of nowhere! You saved my violin technique, and possibly my life during a pretty dark period in my life by giving me a reason to keep going on and playing music and living a musical life. You took me back to the basics and fundamentals, trying to fill as many holes and eliminate bad habits in my playing that developed or crept up over the years. You are grand inspiration and one of my biggest musical role models to be not just the best violinist I can be, but to be the best possible musician and teacher I can be! For 7 magical years at UCF, while juggling so many other commitments and duties you constantly raised and set bar for the UCFSO while still giving me your full attention, in rehearsals and out of rehearsals and in our private lessons! You let me continue to hone, learn and improve upon my orchestral playing abilities each year playing with the UCFSO as an alumnus and auditioning each semester, even though at the time “community members didn’t need to”. Thank you for all the great repertoire we got to play each year as we kept getting better, some of them pieces I’ve always wanted to play in all my life, most of them some of my favorites (now ALL of them my favorites!) thank you for baking us bread, teaching us string technique, orchestral and violin styles of multiple genres like (musicals and fiddling!) ensemble skills, life skills, hearing and listening skills (writing skills during COVID haha), how to tune our instruments, how to conduct, and how to sing and dance! I consider myself the luckiest of all your students for having to have been able to spend and know you all 7 years at UCF! Thank you for truly a lifetime of music! Thank you!
