Mrs. Jevitt
2. Amy Jevitt, My “Violin Mom!” Starting out at a community college wasn’t my ideal choice for the beginning of my post secondary education, but I’m glad that’s how things ended up. At BCC, we had a choice to study with one of two violin teachers, you being one of them. I first became aware of you as Associate Concertmaster of the Brevard Symphony Orchestra through concerts I had attended throughout my adolescence and I somehow knew you were a great teacher and were the only choice. As my Applied Teacher of Violin you taught me how to be musical! You encouraged my love for classical music, violin and the orchestra, showing me how to play each musical style, unique to each composer with reverence and integrity. Uncompromising and stern with intonation and technique you placed all the demands and expectations on me as any conservatory level violin professor would, in the most loving and nuturing way which prepared me for and got me through my undergraduate studies. After only 2 brief years of study, you became more than just my violin teacher, but my “Violin Mom” and I could never stay away for too long, returning every now and then to show you what I’ve learned so far at UCF and even now, a decade later, in preparing for my first professional orchestra auditions. Thank you!
